Abstract
We tested the effect of succinylcholine on patients to ascertain the change of .heart rate and arterial blood pressure. First, we pretreated patients with methylprednisolone or neostigmine, ani then administered succinylcholine under the general anesthesia.
There were three results. In the first, where only succinylcholine was administered, heart rate, arterial blood pressure, serum calcium and serum potassium level were not significantly changed. Only one case showed decrease of heart rate
with increase of potassium level.
In the second result, where methylprednisolone was administered before succinylcholine, the heart rate, arterial blood pressure, serum calcium and potassium level were also not significantly changed. In only two cases there a concurrent -decrease of heart rate with increase of serum potassium level.
In the third result, where neostigmine was first administered before succinylcholine, the heart rate, arterial blood pressure, serum calcium and potassium, level were also not significantly changed. There are only two cases of concurrent decrease of heart rate with increase of serum potassium level.
From these three experimental data, we can conclude that the administration of methylprednisolone or neostigmine before the administration of succinylcholine has little effect in changing the heart rate or the serum calcium and potassium level.
